Some of our Helping Hands for Nepal team are back in the UK and some have travelled on from Kathmandu to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Thailand for a few weeks. We are reflecting on a job well done.
Our refurbishment of Semjong Primary School exceeded all our expectations and we are all extremely proud of the finished result.
Behind the Scenes
Our small Helping Hands for Nepal team did the hard work on the ground. However, many, many, people behind the scenes made this project possible and we are grateful to every one of them.
Friends and family donated items from our Amazon wish list. Their donations included toothbrushes, toothpaste and soap, which were handed to the teachers to supervise the children whilst in school, hopefully leading to a lifetime of good habits.
We were able to put musical instruments, books, stationery and toys in the newly painted classrooms, all of which have beautiful murals – hand-painted by Serena and Loren.
Thanks to generous sponsorship and donations each classroom has a new carpet, making the unheated classrooms warmer and more comfortable in the colder weather.
Individuals and businesses sponsored each of the new desks. They have an engraved plaque, also generously sponsored, on each desk and have received a photo of their desk and the classroom it is in.
We thanked many of our supporters on the flags hand-painted on the stairwell wall, a piece of stunning artwork in its own right.
Helping the Wider Community
Thinking about the wider community we have supported a young lady from the village. This young lady accessed her education later than most and needs extra support to finish school.
Moving forward we will continue to stay in touch with the students and teachers at Semjong, and we are connecting their Reception class with a North Yorkshire school, whose teacher is keen to show her young students education and life in Nepal.
Apologies to anyone we have forgotten to mention, we appreciate and value you all.
